The Music Group are a local amateur dramatic group who, for many years, have used our church for rehearsals and performances. They write their own pantomimes, creating characters for cast members rather than holding auditions. This means everyone gets a chance to shine.
In January they met virtually for an exciting video chat about their next pantomime. There was a fantastic turn out which included new members too – all eager to take part in the next pantomime. They took scenes from a previous show, went into “Zoom rooms” and performed them together and then came back into the main room to perform them to everyone. The impressions and accents were hilarious and it was a much needed bonding session to get everyone back in the panto spirit.
The rough plot was revealed and the theme of the show. The next pantomime will be set in a spooky town full of friendly monsters. Don’t worry, it will be family friendly and not scary. Think Hotel Transylvania: monsters but friendly. The costumes and makeup will be fun and outrageous with a variety of creature features. There could be anything from vampires and witches to ghosts and werewolves.
The writers, now with a confirmed cast list of over 30, have begun setting out to write the show and the characters. They already have ideas for musical numbers that fit in with the theme and should really get the audience singing along. As always, there will be an audience interaction song.
We hope the show can be performed at our church in February 2022 but we will see. For now, it’s all systems go as though it’s a “normal” year and they hope to have the script completed by late Summer. The rehearsals will begin in September through to the following February.
We truly wish them all the best and will be here to support them throughout their rehearsals and performances. Here’s to a spooky 2022!
